A race of non-corporeal, parasitic aliens who go from planet to planet looking for hosts have come to Earth and basically taken over the human race. It's believed that, once inside a body, all memories of the host human are gone. Some few free humans remain hidden from them, forming a resistance group. When an alien Seeker captures a girl named Melanie and puts a Wanderer in her body, she hopes to find out where the remaining humans are gathered, but Melanie, a strong fighter able to converse with the alien in her commandeered body, convinces the Wanderer to say nothing. Disappointed by the lack of progress (though suspecting an empathy for the human), the Seeker informs the Wanderer that she'll be removed and placed in a new host while she herself will enter Melanie. With human lives at risk, Melanie convinces Wanderer to run away and hide out with the humans, but finding them doesn't mean they'll allow an alien presence among them. Jared (Melanie's boyfriend) wants her dead, but Jeb (Melanie's uncle) wants to wait, and Ian, tasked with guarding her, finds himself siding with Jeb. As Ian begins to fall for Melanie, a strange love triangle develops, with Ian wanting Wanderer (inhabiting Melanie's body), Jared wanting Melanie (imprisoned inside her own body), and no one knowing any way to separate the two without killing both. Say what you will about the cheesy nature of movies such as this one, but if you can find it in yourself to let go of all your preconceptions and expectations; You're gonna love this movie. Simple as that. Don't expect it to be like the book. Don't expect it to be like twilight. Just enjoy it. I won't talk about the plot at all, or the actors. What I will talk about is the fact that this is the 1st movie that made me cry in 5 years. It actually astounds me that a movie of this quality gets such bad reviews, but I guess most people don't have the capacity to appreciate a beautiful sci-fi love story nowadays. It all has to be packed in tight to accommodate the 5 minute attention span of the average joe, not to mention action packed and simplistic. These are all the things this movie is NOT. And I love it for this very reason.<br/><br/>So… if you're looking for the next iron man or independence day, this is NOT a movie for you. If, on the other hand, you like movies that make you FEEL something, sit back enjoy! I became a big fan of Saoirse Ronan with her lead role in the 2011 movie "Hanna". Here she is one of two leading females, in a unique Sci-Fi story.<br/><br/>The basic concept is a race of aliens live 1000 years or more, but need a host body. On their own they resemble pearly-white blobs with tentacles. You could hold several in a normal sized human hand. So they get transported to various planets to find hosts.<br/><br/>When they find a suitable host body, normally a person dying or just dead, they get inserted in an area at the back of the neck. The Earth we find as this movie begins has been all but completely taken by these aliens, who believe they are creating a perfect society. They seek humans to "convert."<br/><br/>Ronan is Melanie Stryder and she is being pursued by aliens. As she tries to escape she jumps off a balcony and falls to the concrete below, breaking virtually every bone and bruising every organ. But she is very strong and resists dying. When the aliens implant a new arrival, she being a wanderer, adopts the name Wanda. But in a very unusual development, Melanie and Wanda are both occupying the body and Melanie won't let go.<br/><br/>The other main female is Diane Kruger as alien The Seeker. Even though they are a peaceful race, she is so bent on capturing and converting all humans, she does resort to violence, and goes on an unrelenting search for Melanie/Wanda.<br/><br/>Of course it is all Sci-Fi but done very well. The story is to see if Melanie can prevail.<br/><br/>SPOILERS: In the end Melanie/Wanda find a community of humans hiding out and growing crops inside a mountain hideaway. An elaborate set of mirrors provides sunlight. While prior attempts to extract the alien hosts resulted in everyone dying, they learned the right way, basically make a small incision and let the alien come out. Melanie got to be herself again, and Wanda found a new host, but determined to live peacefully as part of a human community. And they found others, a new beginning for cooperation. An "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" retread told from a postoccupation vantage point, this adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s YA romance novel unfolds in a dystopian future when alien parasites have nearly won the battle for Earth.
